Civic technology initiative
Who’s Running
A nonpartisan civic data platform helping people search candidates, races, and official election sources in one place.
Clearer access to public election information
Who’s Running is a Sykes Holding Group civic technology initiative designed to make election information easier to find and understand. The project is starting with Florida candidate and race data, with a long-term goal of expanding to additional states.
Guiding Description
Who’s Running helps people search and understand candidate and race information using public election records and source-backed data, with free public access for voters and candidates.
What it does
Search, understand, and verify
- Search candidates and public candidate records.
- View races, offices, jurisdictions, and election context.
- Trace candidate information back to public source material.
- See source links and last-verified dates where available.
Why it matters
Candidate information is often scattered across state, county, and federal sources. Local races can be especially hard to find, and voters should not need to know where every election office stores its data before they can understand who is running.
Initial Coverage
Who’s Running is starting with Florida, including federal candidates connected to Florida elections, Florida statewide candidates, Florida state-level candidates, and Florida county-level candidates. It is being designed for future state expansion.
Nonpartisan commitment
Information, not influence
- Who’s Running does not endorse candidates.
- Who’s Running does not rank candidates.
- Who’s Running does not recommend who someone should vote for.
- Candidate visibility is not based on payment, party affiliation, ideology, popularity, or fundraising.
Data sources and transparency
Who’s Running is being designed to collect and organize candidate information from public election records, official election sources where available, and verified administrative review. The goal is to show not only who is running, but also where that information came from.
Expected Sources
- Florida Division of Elections candidate data.
- County Supervisor of Elections websites and public candidate lists.
- Federal Election Commission data for federal candidate reference.
- Official public election pages and candidate filing records.
- Manual administrative review or CSV imports where county data is not yet automated.
Future roadmap
Who’s Running is being developed as a web-first civic data platform, with a shared backend planned so the website and future apps can stay in sync. Future app support may include iPhone, iPad, macOS, and eventually Android.
Sustainability
The public candidate directory is intended to remain free for voters and candidates. Long-term sustainability may come from neutral civic sponsorships, institutional data tools, API access, embeddable election widgets, and research or reporting services, not from paid candidate placement or political endorsements.
